2024 Inaugural Safenet Summit

Safenet Services has announced an innovative fundraiser to raise critical donations for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Safenet is proud to reveal the Safenet Summit, a mission to climb the tallest mountain in Colorado on behalf of survivors in our community. At the beginning of August 2024, a group of Safenet staff, board members, and community supporters will climb 14,439 feet to the summit of Mount Elbert to raise awareness and funds to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence across Rogers and Mayes Counties. These Climbers have dedicated themselves to raising $14,000 each to support Safenet’s life-saving services.

Among the current declared Climbers are Safenet’s own Executive Director Jody Moore; Safenet Board of Directors Chair Rian Burns and father Don Burns; Safenet Board Member Callie Schmidt and brother Rustin Poorboy; District 12 District Attorney Matt Ballard; community advocate Jasmine Bays; and long-time Safenet supporter Thad Reimer.

Jody Moore provides insight into the message behind the Safenet Summit:

“On average, it takes 7 attempts for a victim to leave an abuser. This is partially due to the struggles and obstacles they face when they leave. These victims often leave with very few personal items, sometimes just what they can carry. To honor the uphill battle that survivors face when fleeing, we decided to climb an actual mountain. Like the victims we serve, each of us will be taking only essentials that we can carry on our backs. This journey will be a mentally and physically taxing walk to the summit, mirroring the journey of healing and recovery each and every victim takes to become a survivor.”

Safenet is also providing a chance for the community to “Take A Hike” for survivors on August 4, 2024:

“We know not everyone can be on the mountain with us, so Take A Hike Day gives the community a chance to show up, raise awareness, donate, and just overall support the Summit, our Climbers, and, most importantly, survivors in our community.”
